Witness Arrest Ends With Bond in Dee Ann Warner Case

LENAWEE COUNTY, Mich. — A retired Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office detective tied to the Dee Ann Warner murder investigation was released from jail Wednesday after posting bond, following his arrest as a material witness in the case.

Kevin Greca, a former detective who worked on the investigation, was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Lucas County, after a Michigan judge issued a material witness warrant. Prosecutors say Greca left the state to avoid being served with a subpoena and that efforts to locate him had been unsuccessful for roughly eight months.

Court records show a judge authorized the warrant after repeated attempts to serve Greca failed. Authorities allege he moved out of Michigan without notifying the court and did not comply with orders requiring his appearance.

During Wednesday’s hearing, Greca paid 10 percent of a $50,000 bond, securing his release. Following the payment, the judge removed a condition that would have restricted Greca from leaving Michigan. Greca’s attorney argued that his client did not flee the state, saying he had only traveled to Ohio for dinner.

Prosecutors say Greca’s testimony is essential as the murder trial of Dale Warner approaches. Warner is charged with killing his wife, Dee Ann Warner, and concealing her body. He appeared at Wednesday’s hearing via video call.

Dee Ann Warner disappeared in April 2021. Her remains were discovered in August 2024 inside a resealed anhydrous ammonia tank on property owned by Dale Warner. He has pleaded not guilty to charges including open murder and tampering with evidence.

Jury selection in the trial is scheduled to begin in late January. Greca has not been charged with any crime related to Dee Ann Warner’s death.
