BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — The Wood County Humane Society is working to address a costly roof replacement as it continues to serve hundreds of animals each year amid ongoing financial challenges.
The Bowling Green shelter handles hundreds of adoptions annually and responds to numerous animal cruelty investigations across Wood County. Along with rising operational costs, the organization is now facing the need for a full roof replacement after years of temporary repairs are no longer sufficient.
The project is expected to cost approximately $100,000, representing a significant expense for the nonprofit. Shelter leaders note the organization has been operating at a deficit in recent years as donations and grant funding have declined.
While there is no immediate safety risk, officials say the roof repair is necessary to prevent future damage and ensure the shelter can continue its mission. Fundraising efforts are underway, with hopes of beginning construction sometime next year.
Community support and donations are expected to play a critical role in helping the shelter remain operational and continue caring for animals in need.
