Toledo Man Arrested After Hours-Long SWAT Standoff

Toledo, Ohio — A Toledo man is facing multiple felony charges after police say he barricaded himself inside his home for several hours early Saturday following a domestic violence call.

Officers with the Toledo Police Department were dispatched shortly after midnight to the 100 block of West Foulkes on reports of domestic violence and strangulation. When officers arrived, police say the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Crecencio Morales of Toledo, locked himself inside the home and refused to come out.

Authorities said Morales later climbed onto the roof of the house where he allegedly shouted obscenities at officers and made threats toward police. According to investigators, he also indicated he would not allow himself to be taken into custody, prompting officers to treat the situation as a barricade incident.

A SWAT team was called to the scene, and officers evacuated nearby homes as the standoff continued for several hours. Police said the situation ended around 3:30 a.m. after SWAT officers deployed tear gas into the home before entering and taking Morales into custody.

During the arrest, investigators say Morales attempted to strike an officer and grabbed the officer’s gas mask. Police also allege he made additional threats toward the officer’s family during the incident.

Morales was booked on seven charges, including strangulation, domestic violence, two counts of assault on a peace officer, inducing panic, and two counts of aggravated menacing. Court records show he is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning.
