Fremont, Ohio — A 68-year-old Tiffin man has been arrested on an attempted importuning charge following an investigation by the Fremont Police Department.
Police say Ronald Callahan was taken into custody Thursday in Tiffin and transported to the Sandusky County Jail around 5 p.m.
According to investigators, the case began Wednesday evening when officers responded to a disturbance at the Denny’s restaurant on Cedar Street in Fremont. Authorities said a second disturbance connected to the case also occurred at a Sheetz store along Ohio 53 outside Fremont city limits.
Police said the incidents involved members of Dads Against Predators, a group that conducts online sting operations targeting people suspected of misconduct involving minors. Officials noted those operations occur outside formal law enforcement investigations.
Investigators say the group has agreed to provide video recordings and online chat communications to help corroborate the allegations.
The Fremont Police Department and the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office are continuing to investigate the incidents.
Fremont Police Chief Derek Wensinger said he recently met with Sandusky County Sheriff Chris Hilton and Fremont Mayor Danny Sanchez to discuss efforts related to internet crimes against children investigations. Officials say arrest and case statistics connected to those investigations may be released in the coming days.
Police encouraged anyone with information about suspected abuse to report it directly to law enforcement.
