If you grew up in Toledo, especially around the south end and burbs around Springfield, Perryburg, and Maumee, you no doubt shopped at Southwyck Shopping Center multiple times a month.
Our friends at WTOL recently unveiled their “WTOL 11 Vault” series, which features the once beloved mall. Honestly, about 5 seconds into this video we could smell the chlorine from the fountains mixed with the coney dogs from Charlie’s!
If you’re a bit younger, you might remember Southywck similar to the video below. At this point it was mainly a shell. Southwyck 3 (where I worked) was closed around 2002 and there were a few local shops scattered throughout.
It’s interesting to think that this century’s “new mall,” Amazon, is now on the footprint of the former Southwyck Shopping Center
