LC4 Facility Broken Into, One Dog Still Missing

Toledo, OH — Lucas County Canine Care and Control (LC4) was the target of a break-in during the early hours of Friday, November 15, 2024. Surveillance footage captured an individual forcibly entering the facility at 410 S. Erie St. and fleeing with four dogs.

Thanks to the quick work of LC4 Canine Control Officers, three of the stolen dogs—Spider Monkey, Gorilla, and Bae—were safely recovered and returned to the shelter later that day. One dog, however, remains missing.

Lola, a black and tan German Shepherd with medium-length hair, is still at large. Lucas County officials urge anyone who sees Lola to contact LC4 at 419-213-2800 or, after normal business hours, the Toledo Police Department non-emergency line at 419-255-8443.

The Toledo Police Department is actively investigating the incident alongside Lucas County officials. The Board of Lucas County Commissioners and LC4 leadership expressed their gratitude to the Canine Control officers who swiftly recovered three of the dogs and thanked the community for their support and patience during this time.

As a result of the break-in, LC4 remained closed to the public on Friday, November 15. Staff were on-site to care for the animals, and officers continued providing field services. In light of the closure, LC4 extended the three-day stray hold period by one day to ensure all animals receive due care.

LC4 will resume normal operations on Saturday, November 16, with regular hours from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

The community’s assistance is vital in locating Lola. A photo of her accompanies this announcement, and LC4 staff remain hopeful for her safe return.
