Northbound I-475 Traffic Switch Scheduled for Saturday, December 14

Motorists should prepare for significant disruptions on Saturday, December 14, as construction crews work to open three northbound lanes on Interstate Route 475 between U.S. Route 24 in Maumee and State Route 2/Airport Highway in Holland, Lucas County.

Key Details for Saturday:

  • Lane Restriction: Starting at 6 a.m., northbound I-475 will be reduced to one lane from U.S. Route 24 to State Route 2. This restriction will remain in place until work is completed.
  • Ramp Closures: Access to and from U.S. Route 24, Dussel Drive/Salisbury Road, and State Route 2 will be temporarily closed for at least one hour each to allow for alignment adjustments, pavement markings, and tie-ins. Closures will happen at different times during the day.
  • Signage Updates: New overhead signs will be installed as part of the changes.
  • Detours Recommended: Drivers are advised to use alternate routes during the scheduled work.

Post-Construction Updates:

  • Updated Exit for Dussel Drive: The northbound exit to Dussel Drive (Exit 6) will shift to a collector/distributor road located ¾ mile south of its former location, separated by a concrete barrier.
  • Improved Merging Lanes: A newly added auxiliary lane will simplify merging for drivers entering from Route 24 and exiting at Dussel Drive. Digital signs will direct drivers to stay in the right lane to access the updated exit.

Continuing Construction:

  • The interstate will remain a construction zone with variable speed limits in place through the winter.
  • Southbound I-475 is expected to expand to three lanes by late December, possibly as early as December 21.
  • Additional lane restrictions will occur in spring to complete the final paving for northbound I-475.
  • The new Route 20A interchange will open after remaining signal and paving work is completed, with timing dependent on weather.
