East Toledo House Where Kei’Mani Latigue Was Found Burns Down and Is Demolished

TOLEDO, Ohio — The vacant east Toledo home where 13-year-old Kei’Mani Latigue’s body was found last month burned down early Saturday morning before being demolished hours later.

The fire at 1101 Miami Street began around 7 a.m. Firefighters responded but did not enter the structure due to its unsafe condition. The home had been marked a “code red,” meaning it was too unstable to enter. Crews controlled the blaze from the outside while allowing the fire to run its course.

By 9 a.m., a demolition crew arrived and began tearing down the burned remains. The home had been declared a nuisance property shortly after Kei’Mani’s body was discovered on March 24.

City officials said this became an emergency demolition due to the fire damage. Equipment was already on site, and the structure was flattened by 9:40 a.m.

The city confirmed that the memorial items left for Kei’Mani were not harmed by the fire or demolition. Community members had moved them to a nearby location earlier this month.

Kei’Mani had been missing since March 18. Her death was ruled a homicide. On Friday, her father, Darnell Jones-Ogletree, admitted in court documents to killing her and faces charges including murder, felonious assault, and abduction. He is being held on a $4 million bond and is due back in court April 24.
