RIO DE JANEIRO — Authorities in Brazil say they’ve prevented a potential attack targeting Lady Gaga’s massive concert on Copacabana Beach over the weekend. The free show drew an estimated 2.1 million fans, making it one of the largest concert gatherings in recent years.
Two individuals were arrested on suspicion of plotting violence during the event, allegedly aiming to gain attention on social media. According to police, the suspects posed as Lady Gaga fans and attempted to recruit teenagers to carry out acts of violence using Molotov cocktails and improvised explosives.
The suspects were reportedly members of an extremist online hate group that promotes radicalization, hate crimes, and disturbing content, including child exploitation and self-harm. One adult was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm. A teen also connected to the group was taken into custody on child pornography charges.
Thanks to coordinated efforts by law enforcement, no harm was done, and the concert went on as planned. Gaga has not publicly commented on the alleged plot.
