Bowling Green, Ohio — A Bowling Green family has filed a lawsuit against Scouting America and related parties after their 5-year-old son suffered a fractured thighbone during a Cub Scout meeting in December.
According to the complaint, the child was allegedly punched, knocked to the ground and stomped on by an older scout during a Pack 422 meeting on Dec. 4. The family claims the incident occurred while children were participating in an indoor snowball activity.
The lawsuit alleges the pack leader was outside at the time of the incident and accuses the organization of negligent supervision. The complaint also claims younger and older scouts were not properly separated.
The child has undergone two surgeries and remains in a wheelchair, according to his parents. They say he has not returned to school due to mobility challenges. The family is seeking more than $25,000 in damages.
The lawsuit names Erie Shores Council Incorporated, the Boy Scouts of America, the pack leader and the minor accused in the incident. An attorney representing the family also alleges the incident was not reported immediately.
In a statement, Erie Shores Council said leadership has been in communication with the family and has assisted them with insurance and support resources.
