According to troopers from the Patrol’s Toledo Post, the crash happened around 2:58 p.m. at the intersection of Bailey and Jeffers roads. Investigators said Edward A. Williams, 68, of St. George, Utah, was driving a 2014 Ford Escape eastbound on Bailey Road when he stopped at the intersection but failed to yield before pulling forward.

His vehicle was struck by a northbound 2020 Chrysler Pacifica driven by Susan L. Witte, 39, of Whitehouse. Both vehicles went off the northeast side of the roadway.

A rear passenger in Williams’ vehicle, Betty J. Manworren, 90, of Toledo, was taken to the University of Toledo Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. A front passenger, Virgie P. Williams, 60, of St. George, suffered critical injuries and was transported to ProMedica Toledo Hospital. Edward Williams was also hospitalized with serious injuries.

Witte was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Troopers said all occupants were wearing seat belts, and drugs or alcohol are not suspected factors.

The Patrol was assisted by the Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, Providence Township Fire and EMS, Whitehouse Fire and EMS, Monclova Township Fire and EMS, and two towing companies. The crash remains under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds motorists to be extra vigilant while driving through intersections, and to be cautious of approaching traffic.
