TOLEDO, Ohio — Two Toledo men are facing multiple felony charges after police say they led officers on separate high-speed pursuits Thursday evening, with firearms and illegal drugs later recovered in both cases.
According to authorities, officers attempted to stop 19-year-old Rashaun Young near Collingwood Boulevard and Winthrop Street around 5 p.m. Police report that Young fled the traffic stop, leading officers through residential neighborhoods and onto major roadways during rush-hour traffic. Court documents allege the pursuit reached speeds of approximately 100 miles per hour, with multiple traffic signals ignored along the way.
The chase ended when Young’s vehicle collided head-on with another car at the intersection of Detroit Avenue and Sunset Boulevard. Police took him into custody at the scene. Officials reported no serious injuries resulting from the crash.
Investigators state that two Draco-style rifles and cocaine were recovered from Young’s vehicle. He has been charged with failure to comply, resisting arrest, and weapons-related offenses. His bond was set at $100,000.
Around the same timeframe and in the same general area, officers also attempted to stop 31-year-old Keith Carter after observing a traffic violation. Police allege Carter fled from the stop at speeds exceeding 90 miles per hour while attempting to follow another vehicle. During the pursuit, authorities say Carter’s vehicle struck two other cars.
Officers report Carter lost a tire on Kenwood Boulevard near Douglas Road before the vehicle ultimately came to a stop at Bancroft Street and Boshart Road in Ottawa Hills. Upon his arrest, police say two handguns and suspected fentanyl were found inside the vehicle.
Carter faces charges including failure to comply, possession of controlled substances, and multiple weapons offenses. A $50,000 bond was posted in his case.
Both men are scheduled to appear in court on March 2.
