Swanton Township, Ohio — Authorities are investigating after a body was discovered Monday morning within the structure of a bridge along the Ohio Turnpike in Swanton Township.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, troopers were alerted just before 11 a.m. on April 20 when a bridge inspector made the discovery during a routine inspection. The location is just west of the State Route 2 interchange.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission, Springfield Township Fire Department, Lucas County Sheriff’s Office, Norfolk Southern Police Department, and the Lucas County Coroner’s Office.
Officials have not yet determined how long the body had been at the location. The identity of the deceased will be established following an autopsy by the coroner’s office.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional details have not yet been released.
