Carbon Monoxide Tragedy Claims Three

TOLEDO, Ohio — Three people are dead and two children remain in critical condition following an apparent carbon monoxide exposure inside a vehicle in Toledo.

Emergency crews were called to the 300 block of Phillips Avenue shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday after multiple people were reported unconscious inside a vehicle.

Authorities said an adult in the vehicle had contacted the children’s father after the vehicle suffered a flat tire. When he arrived, he found all five occupants unresponsive and called 911.

Police and firefighters treated the victims at the scene before they were transported to local hospitals. A hazardous materials response was also requested while crews determined the cause of the medical emergency.

City officials later confirmed that three members of the family died. Two children remain hospitalized in critical condition.

Investigators believe the deaths were the result of carbon monoxide exposure. Officials said there is no indication of foul play, and the investigation is ongoing.
