OREGON, Ohio — Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School will close at the end of December 2026 because of declining enrollment and financial challenges.
School leaders announced the decision Wednesday in a video posted by the Catholic Diocese of Toledo. The closure affects the high school division, while Cardinal Stritch Academy, which serves pre-K through eighth grade, will remain open.
The high school currently has 69 students.
According to school leaders, the decision followed several efforts to strengthen the high school, including marketing campaigns and an early college pathways program. The school’s board recommended the closure to Bishop Daniel Thomas after determining the high school was no longer sustainable.
Cardinal Stritch officials said they will help current high school students transition to other schools. The school is working with Central Catholic High School to create a pathway for students who want to continue a Catholic education beginning in January.
Cardinal Stritch opened in fall 1961 as Toledo’s sixth Catholic high school. The school later added its pre-K through eighth-grade academy for the 2009-10 school year.
The Diocese said the academy will continue with additional focus and resources after the high school closes.
