TOLEDO, Ohio — Twelve people were injured, including two critically, following a mass shooting at the Old West End Festival on Saturday evening, according to the Toledo Police Department.
Police said the victims range in age from 14 to 61 years old. The shooting occurred near the intersection of Delaware Avenue and Glenwood Avenue shortly after 5:30 p.m. as hundreds of people attended the annual neighborhood festival.
Investigators believe at least two shooters were involved. As of Saturday night, no arrests had been announced, and officers continued searching for suspects while multiple roads in the area remained closed during the investigation.
Toledo police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or recorded video at the festival to come forward.
“I know in my heart that footage is out there,” said Toledo Director of Public Safety George Kral. “So I am imploring my fellow Toledoans to look through your cell phone video and reach out to TPD and help them catch the people who did this.”
Kral also expressed disappointment that violence disrupted one of the city’s signature events.
“This is one of the most iconic festivals in Toledo, and it’s a shame that something like this had to ruin it,” he said.
Investigators are working to determine what led up to the shooting.
Following discussions with city officials and law enforcement, organizers announced the cancellation of Sunday’s Old West End Festival activities.
“Too often we turn on the news and learn of a celebration somewhere that turns into a tragedy. Now, that news comes from our own neighborhood,” organizers said in a statement.
“Many people want to know how we proceed from such a dark place. We feel it would not be compassionate, responsible or possible to continue festival.”
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111. Authorities said callers and tipsters may remain anonymous, and additional measures can be taken to protect those concerned about their safety.
